First Thursdays
The First Thursday of every month, May through September, is a neighborhood celebrationof the neighborhood. Each First Thursday benefits a nonprofit organization and has a distinctive theme, such as: Kids and Kanines (alas) in May and Health & Wellness in June. Art on the Avenue
In October, First Thursday steps aside for Art on the Avenue, a huge block party celebrating art. The first Saturday in October finds shoulder to shoulder art booths on both sides of Mount Vernon Avenue, for about ten blocks, from East Bellefonte to Hume Avenue. Although food stands are interspersed the emphasis is clearly on fine arts, now drawing more than 40,000 visitors to the community event.
Farmers Market
Saturday mornings from 8noon, Mid April through Mid-November, depending n weather. Fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses and baked goods, beautifulmushrooms.
Halloween Parade
The Sunday before Halloween, thousands of Del Ray costumed residents and their little dogs, too, march from the Post Office to Mount Vernon Recreation Field for a free community barbecue with games and live music. Every child is offered a goody bag and the mayor and city council members award prizes for best costumes, best decorated businesses, residences, and baby carriage floats.
Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving morning, at the crack of 11:00 a.m. for a five-mile race (walk, bicycle ride). Benefits ALIVE! Winners receive cash prizes.
House and Garden Tour
May 17, 11:00 a.m. -5 p.m.
Tour some of Del Rays loveliest homes and gardens on the Del Ray House & Garden Tour.
This years tour will feature the Colasanto Center and eleven of Del Rays historic homes and their gardens. The homes are within easy walking of each other and can be visited in the order you prefer. A map of the homes allows you to set your own route.
Advance tickets (available at the Farmers Market and A Show of Hands) are $15 per person from May 3 through Friday, May 16th, and $20 on the day of the tour.
