  • Bishop Ireton team takes first in state

Bishop Ireton High School sophomores Tyler Hargett and Steve Porter finished in first place in the fall version of the Virginia Council for Economic Educations (VCEE) Stock Market Game. 

Their achievement placed them at the top of the 1,130 teams that participated in the state. The two students will be honored for their accomplishment at the annual awards luncheon hosted by the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank on May 9. Hargett and Porter will similarly be honored at the end of May by the George Mason University VCEE Center. 

Tyler and Steve began the Stock Market Game with a portfolio of $100,000 and over the period of the ten weeks of the game increased the value of their holdings to a total of $148,221.69, the highest of all the participating teams in Virginia.  The company where they earned the bulk of their profits was Baidu.com, Inc; stock ticker symbol BIDU.  Baidu is a Chinese-language Internet search provider.
