Thumbs up to the Womens Giving Circle of ACT for Alexandria. At their 5th annual spring forum last week, the Giving Circle announced this years awards of $60,000 in gifts to Alexandria non-profits. Since its 2004 formation, the Giving Circle has donated more than $400,000. Thanks for filling a vital need in our community!
Thumbs up to the Alexandria City Council for voting Tuesday night to seek federal grants of more than 1 million dollars to use for teen pregnancy prevention efforts. The unanimous 7-0 vote was a welcome display of bipartisanship on an important issue.
Thumbs Up to the various Memorial Day celebrations in our midst. In Alexandria we have our program at the Rocky Versace plaza at 11 a.m. Also at 11, at Arlington National Cemeterys Memorial Amphitheater, is the national Memorial Day ceremony, where upwards of 5,000 visitors are expected.
Thumbs up to American Legion Post 24 for its ongoing role in preserving Alexandrias History. Post 24, the honoree in next weeks Historic Alexandria Museum Gala, was instrumental in raising awareness and funds to preserve Gadsbys Tavern. At the Gala, a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1808 that was recently discovered in its archives will be on display. Thanks for your long-term role in preserving our history!
