It comes in handy to be in the shadow of the Free Worlds capital. When it comes to broadband Internet, Alexandria could have a leg-up in securing federally funded pilot projects.

Mayor Bill Euille said Tuesday hes been meeting with a commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission to discuss a partnership between the governments communications arm and Alexandria City Hall. 

We discussed how they can wok with small cities and towns like Alexandria so that broadband gets down to the people that need it.

Euilles digression came after announcing an all-time high in applicants for the Council-appointed Commission on Information Technology, which will work with the FCC on broadband Internet projects.
