Authorities are asking the public for help identifying a black man possibly connected with a fatal hit-and-run on the corner of King Street and Park Center Drive January 21.

The man, described as 5-feet-10-inches with a clean-shaved head, may have witnessed or been involved in the accident, police said. The surveillance camera of a nearby gas station captured images of the man, dressed in a dark suit with a white shirt and dark tie at the time.

He spoke with an accent that may be of African descent and might work for a sedan transportation service, police said. They do not yet consider him a suspect in the investigation.

The early morning hit-and-run claimed the life of Melbourne Clyde Leach Jr., 26, of Alexandria. Crossing the street about 12:10 a.m., Leach was struck by a four door black sedan possibly a Lincoln Town Car.

Authorities transported Leach to Inova Alexandria Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Alexandria Police Departments Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. Authorities urge anyone with information about the hit-and-run contact the police department at 703-838-4444 or Crime Solvers tip line at 703-838-4858.
