Alexandria Country Day School’s board of trustees unanimously tapped Scott Baytosh, a 16-year educator, to lead the private K-8 school earlier this month.

Baytosh, who comes to ACDS from Pennsylvania-based Buckingham Friends School, will serve as the academy’s head of school effective July 1. During Baytosh’s tenure, the private, Quaker day school saw enrollment and endowment rise even during the worst of the economic downturn.

“During his 16 years as an educator, administrator and leader in independent schools, Scott has proven his ability to challenge, grow and advance the schools he serves,” said David Ayres, ACDS board of trustees president. “We believe that Scott is the right person to continue building ACDS’s reputation as the premier K-8 school in Alexandria.”

The announcement comes more than a year after former headmaster Alexander Harvey resigned at the request of the board following allegations he had pornographic material on his work computer. Though police investigated the incident for several weeks, Harvey was cleared of any charges.
