Accused murderer heads to trial

A grand jury indicted Fabian Johnson, 19, of Washington earlier this week in connection with the murder of a city resident in October.

Johnson is accused of shooting Bob Cory McNeely, 40, to death on the 1200 block of Wythe St. on October 20. During his preliminary hearing in January, the prosecution’s eyewitness testified McNeely and Johnson had an argument several days before their final confrontation.

McNeely was the city’s sole murder victim in 2011. Authorities picked Johnson up in Georgia just days after launching their investigation.

Attorney Christopher Liebieg is defending Johnson. The trial is slated to begin in May.
