On Monday, a grand jury indicted Jeffrey Power for allegedly embezzling taxpayer dollars while working in City Hall’s human resources department.
Authorities allege Power padded his paycheck with fraudulent overtime claims for possibly as long as a year. His arrest in August prompted a swift response from city officials. Then acting City Manager Bruce Johnson ordered a review of the city’s internal checks and balances to prevent future fraud.
A tip sparked the police investigation into Power, then in his 11th year as a city employee, and led to the felony charge.
