The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce named John T. Long III its new president and chief executive officer Tuesday after a national search.

Long comes to the city from St. Petersburg, Florida, where he is CEO of JTCK Associates, a Florida-based consulting firm that specializes in “small businesses, not for profit organizations and association and chamber management,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

Under Long’s tutelage, the St. Petersburg Chamber was selected as one of the top three Metropolitan chambers on the continent, said Alexandria Chamber spokeswoman Catherine Roper.

“John is a proven business leader,” said chamber chairman Andrew Palmieri. “In addition to his chamber resume, he also has several years of experience in the banking industry. What attracted us to John was not only his extensive executive level experience but also his impressive business development expertise. We feel he is a perfect fit for a city as dynamic as Alexandria.”

Long has worked for the Bay Area Chamber Foundation, the chamber, visitors bureau and political action committee in Kalamazoo, Mich., and president and CEO of the Talbot County Chamber in Maryland.

“I am grateful for the confidence that the presidential search Committee and the Board of Directors have shown in me,” Long said in a statement. “It is with much appreciation that I enthusiastically accept this position and look forward to an aggressive program of work, while getting to know all of our members and encouraging others in our community to be a part of the momentum that we will create.”

Long replaces Tina Leone, who left Alexandria’s chamber to head the Ballston business improvement district in Arlington.
