To the editor:

After reading all of the latest letters regarding bicyclists on the streets, I felt compelled to write about one of my personal experiences while riding my bike along Union Street with my 9-year-old son. We were riding as far over to the right as we possibly could with the cars parked along the roadway — and staying on the bike-route markers — when out of nowhere a car started honking. The driver began cursing at us to get the “bleep” off the road. I asked him what the problem was, and he said, “Bikes shouldn’t be on the road.”

When I pointed to the bike-route markers, he became more aggressive and agitated and cursed at my son and me and sped off dangerously — well over the speed limit. Bicyclists and motorists basically have the same rights and duties, and the laws governing traffic regulation apply equally to both. Period.
