The Alexandria Police Department stopped 81 vehicles and made eight arrests after conducting a roaming driving while intoxicated effort on St. Patrick’s Day.
The campaign, which occurred from 8 p.m. March 17 to 6 a.m. the following morning, was designed to deter and apprehend motorists driving under the influence. In addition to those arrested, police issued 45 summonses for various traffic offenses.
Police stopped drivers who committed traffic infractions, and officers checked to ensure their abilities had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs. Six officers from the Alexandria Police Department and one emergency communications technician took part in the effort.
