Increasing parking enforcement’s ranks by two officers likely will net hundreds of thousands of dollars in ticket fines for city coffers next year.

The positions, created to “increase enforcement of parking infractions,” according to the proposed fiscal 2014 budget, are expected to generate more than $300,000 annually.

Filling the positions will cost the city approximately $109,594. However, the increase is partially offset by eliminating five empty sworn police officer positions and a civilian domestic violence social worker position, according to budget documents.

Parking enforcement officers issued more than 70,000 parking tickets last year.
