One of North Old Town’s hidden gems is Casa Felipe at 835 N. Royal St., a place notable for what many call “Tex-Mex.” Yet, this restaurant is about so much more with scores of choices and flavors throughout its varied menu.

Each dish at Casa Felipe is carefully prepared with creations that are enhanced by spices and sauces. The place prides itself on the lovely presentation of its menu selections. This attention to detail is thanks to the owner Kem McCombie, who expanded the dining choices to include Mexican pork chops, Carne Asada, and grilled chicken breast from the Yucatan region.

The thin Mexican-style pizzas are worth seeking out to sample, and are each adorned with corn, beans, cheese, ground beef and pico de gallo. The homemade tamales and tortillas also are notable, created fresh and with no added preservatives. Their flavor and texture wows patrons with their quality.

The vast majority of Mexican-style eateries have a couple of established menu combination platters that customers can select from, but Casa Felipe expands upon this concept. Every diner at the restaurant has the option to make their own platter by selecting any two or three combinations from six different mouth-watering options: tacos, flauta, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, or chile relleno.

The Casa Felipe menu is extensive as well as creative, and all its food has uniquely delicious flavors. Several dishes that come highly recommended are the tacos, sizzling fajitas, the Mole Mexicana, Posole, chicken lemon soup and fish soup.

This holiday season, Casa Felipe may be just the place to hold a holiday party or even enjoy a quiet dinner or order takeout.

Casa Felipe is open Monday to Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays 5-9 p.m. For more information or to order takeout, call 703-535-7868 or visit  www.casa-felipe.com
