The 19th Annual Business Philanthropy Summit – Invest in our Community, chaired by former Mayor Bill Euille and Michelle Maiwurm, is a breakfast event by Volunteer Alexandria that brings together approximately 220 businesses and nonprofit organizations to discuss community needs and celebrate local philanthropy.

David Gardner, co-founder of The Motley Fool, will be the keynote speaker at the Summit. Mr. Gardner and his brother founded the Alexandria-based multimedia financial services company in July 1993 in a small townhouse in Old Town, and have grown the company to its current headquarters in Carlyle, employing a few hundred talented “fools.” As they grew, The Motley Fool created a corporate culture focused on the employee, and have instilled and enabled their workforce to engage with the nonprofit community in Alexandria.

Past speakers include Bob McDonald, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, General Colin Powell, Carly Fiorina, Senator Mark Warner, Scott Wilfong, then President & CEO of SunTrust Bank, Philanthropist Earl Stafford, Share our Strength’s Billy Shore, Washingtonian Magazine Publisher Catherine Merrill Williams, and Congressman Don Beyer.
