Frustrated by Comcast

By Alexandria Times Staff

As an Alexandria resident whose only cable option is Comcast, I wanted to write to express my extreme frustration with their customer service.

After I waited 3 hours for a service call yesterday that never came, I called this morning to speak to a supervisor.  The first person I spoke to transfered me to someone else, who transfered me to someone else, who transfered me to someone else.

When I demanded to speak to a supervisor, I was transfered to a doctor's office!  Although I was angry, I did not immediately believe that this was done on purpose, but when I called back again and relayed what had happened to the next phone agent, she then transferred me to a dating service!   When I called again, I waited on hold for 35 minutes and nobody picked up.

It seems unlikely to me that this was mere coincidence.  If Comcast's customer service representatives are purposefully rerouting customers to doctor's offices, dating services, and who knows what else, I would sincerely hope that your newspaper could get involved and uncover what is really going on.  I have already contacted the City's liaison to Comcast, who is trying to handle my other issues with the Internet.

But I would very much like to see the Times investigate on behalf of the rest of us who are at the mercy of people who answer at comcast.  We can't seem to get a straight answer; maybe you can.

I have experienced similar problems with Comcast. In order to have my issues addressed, I sent emails to hundreds of their executive staff that I acquired by searching the internet. I received very prompt and efficient service following that act. I even got a pro-rated bill for the lack of service for that month.
The link with all the emails is here: http://consumerist.com/consumer/execu...
Ths is the way to FOIL Comcast Customer DISSERVICE!

I absolutely hate Dumcast. Some of the techs and most of the customer service reps are horrible, gawd!!! Verizon is right there with them. Verizon will charge you for something they say is free.Just a big scam.

The ONLY way to get Comcast customer service is to use twitter. Talk to @comcastcares (his real name is Frank). If you would like more on how wonderful he is (yes someone at Comcast is wonderful) see the article the NY Times wrote about him. I also speak from experience with his service. When I moved to Old Town he was the only one that was able to get the tech to set-up our cable properly.

I had Comcast and ran into the same problem; transfer to transfer and at one time had 3 techs come to my house to fix the cable. I had them for around 3yrs (had all three services phone, tv, and internet)I no longer have any of their services and would not recommend them to anyone. I am also waiting for a check from them for charging my account when I no longer was a subscriber. SO if you have them you've been warned.

I could add my own 4 months of misery with Comcast and Verizon as well but, it does not change anything. the problem is the lack of competition among cable providers. And this was caused by legislation passed by the Congress a decade ago, lobbied by Comcast and others. Until there is more competition, we are stuck with what we have.

So how is that Comcast "won" the contract for Alexandria? Why is it that we cannot get Cox or whoever else? Our cable and computer connections go "kaplooey" when it rains. We've called Dumcast to have them check the green box but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

I got stood up by Comcast for a service appointment last year. I had taken a day off work to be home for it. When I called to report that nobody had came, they said, "Oh, so and so is in your area and will contact you shortly." Fat chance. I had to call them back and while they offered a verbal apology for making me sit there all day, the earliest they could reschedule my appointment was a week out. Seriously? One of their technicians mistakenly cut my line in the first place! I turned my box in that weekend and ended service. I went back to Verizon DSL for Internet. I abhor the lack of competition in Alexandria, despite the city's claim that it does not have an exclusive contract with Comcast.

I read your article and was surprised to discover I was not alone in my displeasure with Comcast customer service. Although I have had good service with the technicians, I have had difficulty when calling the Comcast 800 number. I have been disconnected four times, was put on hold and had to listen to someone talking about graduation gifts on her break (she could not hear me as I kept saying hello, hello!) , transferred to the wrong departments and you name it. I did have luck when I spoke with a csr on the technician end. He was very professional and helped me.

When I moved to Alexandria, several calls and transfers to get pricing resulted in 4 different prices for installation. When I finally made an appointment, the installer did not show up despite repeated promises that he was on his way. One day of work down the drain. I tried a broadband card for Internet, but that was just too slow, so I decided to try Comcast again. I set up another appointment and that one was another no-show and another day of work missed. I went to the local office and picked up a box and plugged it in myself and set up my Internet. (I have no idea why they require an installation in the first place.) I recently moved and my roommate asked to have the service transfered into his name. They cancelled my account and shut down the service until I spent 20 minutes on the phone explaining to them that I did not want the servive cancelled, just transfered. I moved to NJ and despite the fact that the previous tenant had Comcast, the other apartment in my building has Comcast, and almost everybody on the street has Comcast, they insisted that they do not serve my street. Luckily, Verizon FIOS is an option in my neighborhood, and so far the experience has been perfect. I signed up online, made an installation appointment online for three days later. This took all of 10 minutes. They called to confirm the appointment the next day, then showed up at 8:30A for an 8A-12P appointment. They provided a free modem/wireless router and gave me an HDMI cable for my TV. This is what competition does. Good riddance Comcast.
