Mount Vernon, Patrick Henry and William Ramsay elementary schools and all five of the citys public middle schools will participate in the U.S. Department of Education Supplemental Educational Services Pilot during the current school year.
St. Elmos Group, a gathering of parents of children with special needs, meets Monday from 8 to 10 p.m. for the first installment of a three-part series. The sessions feature representatives from the Alexandria Network for Student Resources a network of professionals including coaches, an advocate, a tutor, an organizer, a psychologist and an early childhood specialist which works with students with a variety of learning issues.
Bus routes for students in Alexandria City Public Schools have been dropped in the mail and are also posted on the schools website at http://www.acps.k12.va.us/transportation/. The schools department of transportation has been working throughout the summer to ensure that students arrive at school safely and on-time.
A group of Mt. Vernon Community School first and second grade students were treated to a memorable reading period at lunchtime last Friday when U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and E.P.A. administrator Lisa Jackson stopped by the Del Ray school.
