All of the candidate forums are over and the Alexandria Voter Registrars office is not mailing any more absentee ballots. There is only five days until the 2007 Virginia General Assembly elections and candidates are walking their districts trying to influence voters who remain undecided.
In Alexandria, there is only one contested race, in the 45th House District, between incumbent Democrat David Englin and Republican Mark Allen. Englin has placed ads in civic association newsletters and has sent out emails urging people to vote. Allen has purchased ads on cable television to tell voters about his qualifications.
Two other incumbent Democrats are being challenged by Independent Green Party candidates. Del. Adam Ebbin is facing James Ronald Ron Fisher in the 49th House District and Sen. Minority leader Dick Saslaw, is being challenged by Mario Palmiotto in the 35th Senatorial District. Incumbent Democrat Patricia S. Patsy Ticer, in the 30th Senatorial District and House Democratic Caucus Chair, Brian Moran, in the 46th, have no opponents.
