Community award goes to SCAN

SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) of Northern Virginia will be honored with the Community Trustee Award at this years Northern Virginia Leadership Awards, presented by Leadership Fairfax, on Nov. 2, at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly.

SCAN was selected for its leadership in cultivating and leveraging relationships with local governments and nonprofits to provide outstanding programs that make an enormous difference in lives of individual children and families in the Northern Virginia region.

Six other awards will also be presented at the ceremony, two of which will also go to honorees from Alexandria: Terrell Le Vaughn Ambrose, band director for T.C. Williams High School, will receive the Educational Leadership Award; and Lorena Granados, who began volunteering at the age of 8, will receive the Youth Leadership Award.
