George W. Brewster
George W. Brewster, 70, of Alexandria and Portsmouth, N.H., died Oct. 17 at his Alexandria residence.

He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Oct. 24, 1936, the son of the late Wylie E. Sr. and Philomena “Fannie” Sena Brewster.

Mr. Brewster was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1954, attended Boston University, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of New Hampshire.

He attended U.C.L.A. and received a doctorate from the University of Florida. After receiving his Ph.D., he worked at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Survivors include five siblings, Charles W. Brewster of Newington, Robert A. Brewster Sr. of Rochester, N.Y., Janet B. Pecunies and Wylie E. Brewster Jr., both of Portsmouth, and Klora B. Shotter of St. Petersburg, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brother, John Brewster, predeceased him.

Private services are planned for a later date.

Arrangements are by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Harold D. Grover
Harold D. “Smokey” Grover, 79, a longtime Alexandria resident, died Oct. 26 at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

Mr. Grover was born March 12, 1928, in Edgar, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and then moved his family across the United States following work opportunities.

He settled in Alexandria in 1958. Mr. Grover retired from Coastal Pile Driving after 20 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 162 for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patty Ann; three daughters, Suzie Stone, Mitzi Deavers and husband Billy, and Shari Stone and husband Ricky; two sons, Benny Grover and wife Star, and Bobby Grover; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
