


Safely home from Iraq
Every bit a dad, Senator Webb welcomed son Jim Webb, Jr. back to American soil at Camp LeJeune after a long, tough deployment. The young Marines return on May 19 coincided with Ho Chi Minhs birthday and the Virginia Senator expressed immense relief for his sons safe return and pride in his accomplishments.
1100 block of King Street beautified 18th-century style
In a remarkable spirit of cooperation, 22 businesses responded to city urgings to doll up for the forecasted National Harbor burst of tourism by sprucing up their block with period-specific landscaping. Under the guidance of J. Brown of J. Brown & Co. and Joe Egerton of Arts Afire Glass Gallery, the effort yielded 10 reproduction English Regency Lead Planters.
Fox sighting in Old Town
Fox 5s Gurvir Dhindsa and Tony Perkins exchanged the set for live action at the Old Town waterfront early last Thursday morning chatting with local business leaders such as Wellington Watts of Alexandria Colonial Tours and Kristina Robertson of Barkley Square Dog Bakery and Boutique.
Rising fashion designer in our midst
Marymount University student and Alexandria resident Vesna Kustudic recently received the $3,000 T.H.E. Artist Agency Award by the Fashion Group Foundation of Greater Washington. Formerly of Belgrade, Serbia, Kustudic says her designs bear the markings of international travel.
Celebrating one year
With a giant birthday cake and 60 voices singing, Happy Birthday, Artfully Chocolate of Del Ray turned one-year-old. Guests of the art/chocolate boutique sampled new creations from Kingsbury Chocolates and yet another piece of art was sold, bringing the total art sales to 50 for year one, reports owner Eric Nelson.
