Former St. Stephens & St. Agnes Saint Mike Schwimmer (04) is one of the top relief pitchers this season for the University of Virginia Cavaliers. Schwimmer has seen action in nearly 60 percent of the Cavaliers contests this season.

In the Cavaliers recent 4-3 win against Longwood, Schwimmer threw a scoreless no-hit sixth inning. In the Cavaliers recent 3-1 win over Virginia Tech, Schwimmer threw a scoreless no-hit eighth inning. Brian OConnor, UVA head coach, has the Cavaliers ranked in the Top10 of virtually every collegiate baseball poll. Currently, the Cavaliers weigh-in at 27-5 overall on the season.

Terp prep
Current St. Stephens & St. Agnes senior Ian Davidson is preparing for his first collegiate football season this upcoming fall for the University of Maryland Terrapins.

Davidson may or may not redshirt this upcoming season for head coach Ralph Friedgens Terrapins. The two-way high school lineman received VIS All-State honors this past season for Saint head coach Dave Holm.

More than par
The St. Stephens golf team should be in a strong position to challenge for the IAC title this spring.

Veteran head coach Jerry Howell has a strong nucleus of players returning from last seasons team. Four-year starting senior Chris Beveridge will likely lead the Saints charge. Other key performers include seniors Dick Duvall and David Tuerff as well as sophomore Joe Curley.

Ireton putters
The Bishop Ireton golf team is in transition. Longtime head coach Ken Baskette stepped down after the completion of the 06 season. And former Ireton standout Jeff Henry graduated this past spring – having won the Alexandria Sportsmens Club Golf Award.

Some of the key performers this season for the Cardinals include seniors Chris Campbell, Brian Dauer, Brendan Hall, Nic Keim and junior Phil Goldblatt.
In the Cardinals most recent match, they handily defeated Bishop McNamara (Md.) 8-1.

Good hoops year
Becky Fernandes (Bishop Ireton 06) recently completed her first year of Division One Basketball at Longwood University. Fernandes, a four-year starter at Ireton, is the first Ireton female to play D-One Basketball. A collegiate shooting guard, Fernandes averaged nearly 12 points for the Lady Lancers and dished out nearly three assists per game. Summer hoops The Mark Vincent/Bishop Ireton summer basketball camps will begin June 29 and will run through August 10.
