The T.C. Williams Girls Track and Field Team turned in an impressive eighth overall place at the recent Virginia State AAA Championships.

Only Westfield (27 team points) recorded more team points than did the Lady Titans (26.5 team points) among Northern Region teams. The top six schools were primarily from the Tidewater or Richmond areas. Leading the Lady Titans were Samella Koroma – first in shot put (41-1.00) and second in discus (124-7.00) – worth 10 points and eight points respectively; and Tynita Butts – second in long jump (19-5.50) and tied for eighth in high jump (5-4.00) – worth eight points and a half point respectively.

The T.C. Williams Boys Track and Field Team placed 46th overall (out of nearly 130 schools). The lone Titan to place in the top eight was Thomas Clark – who tied for fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 13-06.00.

Both the Lady Titans and the Titans were coached by veteran Mike Hughes.

Saints are champs
At the recent IAC Boys Track and Field Championships, the St. Stephens & St. Agnes Saints claimed two individual Champions – senior Ian Davidson won the gold medal in the shot put with a put of 49-03.00; senior Mike Jones won the gold medal in the high jump with a jump of 6-00.00.

The Episcopal Maroon claimed one individual Champion – senior Syvad Young won the gold medal in the discus with a throw of 141-06.00.

Not only will Bishop Ireton have to replace their athletic director, football coach and softball coach for the 07/08 academic year they will also have to replace their girls lacrosse coach for the upcoming school year.

Veteran head coach Amy Mantooth-Coffin recently stepped down after six
years on the job. Mantooth-Coffin (who played at West Springfield and Va. Tech) led the Lady Cardinals to the 03 and the 06 WCAC Runners-ups Trophy (losing to Paul VI and to Good Counsel respectively in the two Title Games).

Coincidentally, Ireton bowed out to St. Stephens & St. Agnes in the 07 VIS semi-finals – Mantooth Coffins final game at the helm of the Cardinal and Gold. (SSSA, led by veteran head coach Kathy Jenkins, won the 07 VIS Championship).
