Located between the George Washington Parkway and the Potomac River in the Herbert Springs area, this eclectic home is listed at $2,250,000 with  Coldwell Banker agent Jane Cole. Call 703-518-8300.

The house was built as a 3,236 square foot classic Southern Colonial 31 years ago. Major renovations in the rear of the house added another 2,000 square feet by expanding the garage and providing balconies, a great room and a main-floor master suite. The new rooms are surrounded by a glass turret with a dramatic modern look. By thus combining the Colonial and contemporary styles, the project created an exciting eclectic home. The result, says Cole, is elegance plus comfort.

The spacious foyer stands between the dining room and office. The dining room features a woodburning fireplace and the hardwood floors that continue throughout the house except for the carpeted master bedroom.

On the right, the office boasts built-in bookcases and cabinets plus a full-length window, as well as a window to the front.

A major part of the renovation is the rear great room that showcases a 16-foot ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows and a gas log fireplace with a carved stone mantel. The new master suite boasts a three floor-to-ceiling windows. The three closets include a walk-in with a dressing area.

A sweeping rear staircase leads from the great room to the second floor, which provides three bedrooms. Two share a hall bath while the other is the former master suite. It is enhanced by a fireplace and its own full bath, with a claw foot tub and glass-enclosed shower.

On the lower level, the family room has a wood burning fireplace. It stands near a large laundry room, a refrigerator, a full bath and a workshop with wine cellar. The storage area opens onto the backyard, with its slate patio and outdoor fireplace.
