Election 2007
This week marks the last of a series of candidate profiles as voters begin to turn their attention to the November elections.

In this weeks issue, incumbent state Senator Richard Saslaw (D-35th) and his Independent Green party challenger Mario Palmiotto, are spotlighted. Last week, incumbent state Delegate David Englin (D) and challenger, Republican Mark Allen pointed out their views on issues. And prior to that, The Times profiled incumbent Adam Ebbin (D-49th) and his challenger Ron Fisher (Independent Green Party).

Next week, an overview of all the candidates, a sample ballot and voter information will be available. More noteworthy, The Times will reveal its endorsements of candidates.

Halloween celebrations
Its that time again when Halloween takes center stage in our communities and first thoughts turn to safety for our children while out trick or treating.

As a means of making the Washington metro areas roadways less frightening and a whole lot safer, once again the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is offering free rides in a cab to those would-be drunk drivers throughout Alexandria, on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

During an eight-hour period from 8 p.m. on Oct. 31 to 4 a.m. on Nov. 1, SoberRide kicks in and area residents 21 and over who are celebrating a wee bit too much, can call toll free 1-800-200-TAXI and be afforded a no-cost, safe way home.
