Market meets $440,000 median


What can our areas median housing price buy in Alexandria? A condo, a townhouse and two single-family homes were all listed at $440,000 on one day in October. This was the median for September, as announced recently by the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors.

The newest property was the three-year-old Federal-style townhouse in Skyview Park, featuring three bedrooms with 2.5 baths on its two floors. In addition, it boasts a red-brick  exterior with green shutters and mullioned windows. (Call RE/MAX Absolute at 703-583-9886).

The condo is located in the Montebello subdivision. Dating from 1982, it provides two bedrooms and two baths, with a community swimming pool. (Call Montebello Marketing at 703-548-5958).

The oldest offering, built in 1949 at Mount Vernon Woods, has the largest lot at .46 acres. The ranch-style home provides three bedrooms and two baths on its one floor. (Call Long & Foster at 703-960-8900).

The other single-family dwelling was built at Bren Mar Park in 1956. Its brick-and-siding exterior boasts expansive front windows. The three-story home features four bedrooms and two baths on a .2-acre lot. (Call Long & Foster at 703-790-1990).

Generally regarded by statisticians as the most reliable measure of central tendency, the median is the point where half the prices are above it and half are below.
