Alexandria fillmmaker Catherine Mattingly will be previewing her 73-minute film,
KHORISTORIA: The Story of the Yale Russian Chorus, on Friday, May 30 at 7:00 pm at the Russian Cultural Centre, 1825 Phelps Place NW, Washington, DC 20008.
Part history, part biography, part music documentary, KHORISTORIA is the story of a Russian emigre who inspired American college students to sing Russian traditional music and to visit and sing in the Soviet Union during the darkest years of the Cold War.
“By showing the power of music to transcend time, space, and politics, connecting people who do not seem to have much in common, KHORISTORIA offers a timeless message of diversity, cross-cultural understanding, and hope,” Mattingly said.
The evening will feature a screening of the film, followed by a Q & A session with Denis Mickiewicz, the founding conductor of the Yale Russian Chorus, and will also include a reception and a short “concert” of songs from the film performed by alumni choristers.
The evening is complimentary.
