On Sat., May 24, police were called to the pool at the Meadow Woods apartment complex, located at 7111 Fairchild Dr., to respond to a drowning. The first officer to arrive located a 19-year-old lifeguard performing CPR on a 23-year-old man. The officer took over CPR until medic units arrived. Joseph Lansana, of 7204 Fairchild Drive #202 in Alexandria, was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police determined that Lansana jumped into the deep end of the pool. A short time later, he went under water and did not come up. The lifeguard and Lansana’s friend jumped in and pulled him to the surface but Lansana was unable to be revived.
