The Office of Historic Alexandria held their first annual Historic Alexandria Museum Gala September 27, honoring Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) for his service to the community and efforts to promote Alexandrias heritage.

This evening of dining, dancing and entertainment was held at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, where Mayor Bill Euille presented Warner with a congratulatory proclamation. The crowd chuckled as Warner himself cut the mayors reading of the five-page tribute short by interjecting, Just tell them Ive never been arrested.

Guests were able to board the Godspeed, a replica of the sailing ship that carried English settlers to Jamestown in 1607, for a tour before enjoying the big band sounds of the Eric Felten Jazz Orchestra.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Alexandrias heritage, historic sites and museums. This is an investment in our community, said Amy Bertsch, spokesperson for the Office of Historic Alexandria. Preserving these sites is not just about history. We all benefit in our quality of life.
