May 26 – City hosts annual Jazz Festival

The City of Alexandria invites the public to attend the 31st Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on Monday, May 26, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Fort Ward Park, 4301 West Braddock Road. Admission is free. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be relocated to the Lee Centers Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. Tom Grooms, Public Affairs Director of WJZW, WMAL, and WRQX will serve as this years master of ceremonies. The festival features music from the Difficult Run Jazz Band; Project Natale; Larry Brown Quintet; Sandra Johnson Quintet, and Al Williams. The performance schedule is as follows:
 
1 p.m. – Difficult Run Jazz Band
2 p.m. – Project Natale
3 p.m. – Larry Brown Quintet
4 p.m. – Sandra Johnson Quintet
5 p.m. – Al Williams
 
The park features amphitheater and grass seating. Festival attendees can bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food will be available for purchase, picnic baskets are welcome, and grills are available in the park at the picnic sites. No alcoholic beverages are allowed, and pets should be left at home.
 
Parking will be available on both sides of West Braddock Road, and additional parking will be available at the Minnie Howard School, located at 3801 West Braddock Road. Fort Ward Park is served by DASH and Metrobus transit lines.
