Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) was surprised with a little birthday celebration thrown for him Friday by preschoolers and trustees of Hopkins House in Mt. Vernon.  The Hopkins House James L. and Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy, which opened its doors last fall on Route 1, currently has 60 children enrolled with 30 openings still available. The academy provides world class preschool education for children of all income levels. This new Hopkins House learning center was built with more than $1 million in donated architectural and construction services from D.C.-area organizations, coordinated through the Virginia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors.  Also, more than $1 million in funding was made possible through donations from private individuals, companies and foundations, mainly from Alexandria area communities.  Hopkins House’ main school is based in Old Town Alexandria, where it was founded in 1939, and has a waiting list for enrollment in its Helen Day Preschool Academy and Family Learning Center.
