Leroy Merrifield
On September 19, 2008 at age 90. He predeceased his wife Marian Hansen Merrifield and is survived by his sons, Eric and Randall (Victoria Valentine); his daughters, Lois Madden (Tom), Karen Cleland (James); and four grandchildren, Clarke Madden, Kristen Shaw, Robin and Andrew Cleland. Dr. Merrified was a retired George Washington School of Law professor. His casebooks on labor relations law, collective bargaining and labor arbitration are taught in American law schools. He was a founding member of the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church and the inspiration for the Memorial Walk which was completed in 1994. Wendy Burns, a friend and member of the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church remembers him as a lovely, elegant man.
Mary Catherine Montgomery
On September 25, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Montgomery. She is survived by her children: Billy, Neal, Anne, Carol, Trish, Jim and predeceased the late Paul and Jane; grandchildren, Marie, Jon, Michael, Jessica and the late Mary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 11 a.m.
Ralph Lucien Payne
On September 23, 2008 at age 83. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Beauchamp, Mary Krombel, Donna Styles, and Debra Batch; and two brothers Grover and David Payne. Mr. Payne served in World War II with the 101st Airborne Division and was awarded the Silver Star. Services will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008.
Susie Mae Perry-Watson
On September 17, 2008 at age 91. She is survived by her husband Raymond; children, Ann (Bill), Robert (Inez), Archie (Maxine), Esther, Alex (Edith), Melvin (Harriet) and Hildred (Elizabeth); 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Services were held September 27, 2008 at abundant Life United Holy Church.
