T.C. Williams head basketball coach, Ivan C. Thomas, who this year took the Boys Varsity Basketball team to the state championship and their first win in 20 years, has authored a remarkable handbook for parents and educators. 

The book, 45 Tips for Discovering Your Childs Gift, serves as a blueprint for parents and anyone working with youth, to help inspire and motivate young people in an effort to uncover and nurture the childs natural gift or talent.  Coach Thomas shares his insights based on his over ten years of experience working with students, young athletes and his own children at home. 

Coach Thomas leads the reader through a specific, detailed plan about how to take charge, and begin discovering the gifts that each child has, and how to help the child embrace that journey of not only discovering a talent, but how to use it to improve their life, as well as the lives of others.  He discusses how adults can affect the outcome of a childs life through education, tough love, self-control, patience and goal setting.

Thomas has been serving and advising high school and college students for a decade, as a school counselor, basketball coach, and assistant athletic director.  He holds two advanced degrees, a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.
