This tree uprooted through the brick sidewalk in Old Town after its foundation was saturated and struck two parked vehicles, branches breaking straight through the windshield of one Land Rover. It could have been worse, said Sgt. Mark Bergen of the Alexandria Police, present at the scene. At least there were no power lines hit. The harsh weather brought winds and rains that ended fears of a possible drought in the region. There were numerous power outages and downed power lines, said Capt. Luis Santano of the Alexandria Fire Department. Santano added that while there were at least two incidents in which trees, estimated to be more than 100 years old, fell onto houses, there were no injuries and minimal fl ooding occurred in the city.
