VDOT officials say they completed the final leg of work last weekend at the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge as they prepare to open a second span of the $2.5 billion project by the end of the month.

Crews worked through the rain and cold of the weekend to shift lanes on the Capital Beltways outer loop to align with the new bridge.

The second span of the new Wilson Bridge will open to traffic by May 31. The first span opened to much fanfare in June 2006.
