Thanks so much for your story on Elizabeth Edwards graduating from Francis C. Hammond High School. It’s always nice to have some publicity. Most in Alexandria don’t know that Francis C. Hammond was once a proud high school, or that it was named after a Medal of Honor recipient.
The first of our 14 graduating classes is celebrating its 50th Reunion this year. Actually, it is a four year joint reunion, the Classes of ’58-’59 from both Hammond and George Washington High School.
We also had a huge event in 2006 celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of the school but were unable to get any publicity. We are doing everything we can to preserve the school’s history (including a fantastic memorabilia collection we’ve assembled.
