Virginians for Brian Moran filed its first campaign finance report in accordance with Tuesdays filing deadline with the Virginia State Board of Elections. The report shows $1.4 million in contributions, as was announced on Monday, July 7.
We are very proud of Delegate Morans fundraising success this year, spokesman Jesse Ferguson said. This report shows a significant base of support with the potential to meet the long-term needs of financing a gubernatorial campaign.
The committee reported $924,292 on hand as of June 30, more than the $800,000 estimate released in last weeks announcement. The accounting staff provided a conservative estimate for the early release, which has been revised due to less expense at the end of the period than anticipated.
Morans fundraising exceeds the amount raised by then-Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine and then-Attorney General Jerry Kilgore during the first half of 2004, the most recent comparable fundraising period. Morans $1.38 million sets Virginias record for candidates without a previous statewide campaign.
