The Luck of the Irish held off thunderstorms rippled with hail until days end Saturday at the annual Alexandria Irish Festival at Waterfront Park. The looming storm, however, did not dampen the spirits of the crowd, which withstood the heat to enjoy everything Irish, including music, dance acts, food and a favorite libation, beer. The free festival, sponsored by Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities and the Ballyshaners, Inc., serves as a fundraiser for the citys annual St. Patricks Day Parade and festivities.
Alexandrian Pat Troy, who acted as Master of Ceremonies, joked with the crowd that his Irelands Own restaurant booth had four soda breads left and to hurry on over. He reminded the crowd to support the participating vendors as some of the proceeds from their sales support next years parade.
