Robert T. McKeag has been named director of athletics for Alexandria City Public Schools effective Monday, Aug. 18.
McKeag comes to Alexandria City Public Schools with more than 30 years of service in Virginia as a teacher, coach, assistant director and director of student activities. He holds a collegiate professional license with endorsements in secondary school administration, health, physical education and drivers education.

In his most recent position as director of student activities at South County Secondary School in Lorton, McKeag selected head coaches for 18 sports programs, ordered all sports equipment and uniforms for 40 athletic teams and miscellaneous equipment for five practice fields and four competition fields as well as all indoor facilities.
He also collaborated with community members to create and organize South County Athletic Booster Club, directed Patriot District and Northern Region tournaments and collaborated with the high school guidance department to provide information and education to parents and student athletes about the college recruiting process.
Mr. McKeag earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Virginia and masters degree in educational leadership from George Mason University.
