School Board election registration deadline nears


Alexandria citizens in School District B who wish to vote in the Special School Board District B Election, scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, must be registered to vote no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29. All Alexandria citizens living in School District B are eligible to participate.

To determine if you live in School District B, visit and click on the Precinct Map. Candidates for the vacant School Board seat in the district are John Leary, Bernard Schulz, Ellyn Simons, and Marcus Williams.

Applications are also available at all four Alexandria public libraries or from the Office of Cit zens Assistance at Alexandria City Hall, 301 King St. Citizens can also register in person at the Alexandrias Voter Registration Office (132 N. Royal St.) or at any Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Customer Service Center.

Applications may be submitted by mail, if they are postmarked on or before July 29, to the Alexandria Voter Registration Office; 132 North Royal St., Suite 100; Alexandria, VA 22314.

Absentee voting began on Friday, July 18. Voters may download absentee applications from or request an application by mail. Completed absentee applications may be mailed to the Voter Registration Office or faxed to 703.838.6449.

Absentee voters may also vote prior to the special election at the Voter Registration Office. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 9. The Voter Registration Office will also be open for absentee voting until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5.
