Many concerned readers have been inquiring about the condition of Little Joe after his unfortunate encounter with some lawn equipment. Despite the loss of his ears, Little Joe is recovered and living happily with his new family of four dogs and two cats in the home of Francis and Susan Mardula. The Mardulas have been volunteers at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria for more than 20 years, and all but one of their pet family members was adopted from AWLA.
The AWLA routinely has special needs animals like Little Joe in search of homes, including Selma, a gray female domestic short hair cat with one eye and bad knees; Diego, an 18-month-old Boxer/Golden mix being treated for heartworms; and Mr. Universe, a male brown tabby short hair who weighs 24 pounds. For more information on these and other wonderful companions, contact the AWLA at 703.838.4774 or visit www.alexandriaanimals.org.
