The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria held their Annual Dinner and Silent Auction Saturday evening, presenting their PAWSitive Impact Awards at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites on First Street. Over 300 people were in attendance, including former Mayor Kerry Donlon, Patsy Ticer (D-VA 30th), City Manager James Hartmann, Deputy City Manager Michele Evans, Councilman Justin Wilson and Vola Lawson, for whom the citys animal shelter is named. The Somebody to Love-themed evening raised an estimated $34,000 and saw four awards presented to individuals or entities that have made a positive impact or contribution to the welfare of animals in the city. The 2008 award winners were Jay Hoffman, Yo and Larry Frommer, Nora Missell and The Alexandria Times newspaper.
