Alexandria’s Famous Dave’s legendary pit BBQ restaurant recently participated in the Safeway Barbecue Battle in D.C. on June 21 and 22.

For the second year in a row Famous Dave’s was the winner of the Chinet People’s Choice Award.   Many more attendees once again voted for Famous Dave’s from among the top barbecue restaurants and caterers offering all kinds of tasty barbecue at the Battle.

This year’s Barbecue Battle was the 16th event, making it a Washington tradition and one of the Mid-Atlantic area’s largest food and music festivals, attracting well over 140,000 people to historic Pennsylvania Avenue.   “Serving people the absolute best in barbeque is what we do best” said Jon Carothers, Area Director for Famous Dave’s in the D.C. area.   “It’s always great to participate in events like these because they bring us closer to our guests and the community closer to each other.”

The event hosts the country’s best barbecue chefs, offering every type of lip-smacking, multi-napkin barbecue, along with on-going cooking demonstrations and over 35 rock, R&B, jazz, and blues bands performing on three stages.   Safeway’s Barbecue Battle has been voted a “Top 10 BBQ Event” by The Travel Channel & Discovery.com, and has been featured on broadcasts all over the world.  The Battle is also the largest annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and has raised over one million dollars for the Clubs and a few other worthwhile organizations in past years.
