Sales officially started Saturday, June 7, on the townhouses and condos of The Duke, a new community on the 1300 block of Duke Street in Old Town. The sales center, now open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., is nearby at 118 N. Fayette Street. Call 703-837-0364.

Priced from the high $700,000s, the four townhouse models range from 1,572 to 2,500 square feet. Each provides a master suite with a private balcony on the third floor in addition to two bedrooms with adjoining baths and walk-in closets on the second story. The main floor boasts the living and dining area, a closet and powder room. Each unit also features a gated rear courtyard opening onto the common green space.

The six condo models are priced from the high $600,000s, with two bedrooms and two baths. Some models also include dens and sunrooms. Another advantage is a garage storage space. They also offer more space than most new condos, ranging from 1,311 to 1,571 square feet.

Marquis Homes, a member of the Van Metre Family of Companies, is offering a special incentive package exclusively for the first ten homebuyers. They will receive no condo fees for the first year, closing cost assistance and a refrigerated wine cooler included with your kitchen.

With brick exteriors and Victorian-style details, the buildings were designed to blend with the nearby 19th Century homes. We worked really closely with Old Towns Board of Architectural Review to ensure that our architecture is a natural extension of the historic district, said Laurie Shultz, sales and marketing director for the builder, Marquis Homes. Mayor William D. Euille and Vice Mayor Del Pepper had taken part in the May 13 ground breaking, where they praised the project.

The strategic location also includes proximity to the Potomac River, the Metro station, the Beltway and the new Wilson Bridge, Shultz added.

A welcome modern convenience is the underground parking garage, with two spaces for every home. As Schulz explained, We want to make it easy for our homeowners to get home, park their cars without having to worry about finding a spot, and then head out and enjoy everything that Old Town has to offer. This includes restaurants, shops and historical attractions like Gadsbys Tavern.

Designed around a landscaped community courtyard, all of the Duke homes offer their own enticements as well. These include separate tubs and showers, dual vanities and walk-in closets in the master-suite luxury baths, plus fireplaces in the living-dining areas.
