First Night Alexandria, depicted here with a fireworks celebration at the Masonic Memorial last year, approaches its 15th year of existence in the city. The non-alcoholic, safe New Years Eve Celebration includes about 70 different acts from comedians to musicians to storytelling on about 40 different stages throughout the city. About 30 businesses, community organizations and nonprofits throughout the city are participating this year. First Night was first started in 1976 in Boston as an alternative celebration to the revelry often associated with New Years Eve.
