On the steps of Diva Boutique in the heart of Old Town, Mayor Bill Euille marked the beginning of the Alexandria Goes Red campaign, a city-supported effort to raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women, with a proclamation and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Joining Euille last Friday was Vice Mayor Del Pepper, who, along with a crowd of supporters, wore something red to show support for the campaign.
The City of Alexandria and retailers including Diva Boutique and the Christmas Attic teamed up to raise awareness about heart disease in women, with shoppers receiving a special discount on purchases over the campaign kick-off weekend.
