Governor Timothy M. Kaine appointed City Councilman Rob Krupicka to the Virginia Board of Education Monday, February 2.

I am excited about this opportunity to serve the state of Virginia and to contribute to the advancement of education as we prepare our state to compete in the global economy, Krupicka said. I am looking forward to continuing my strong advocacy for the power of education, and more specifically, for ensuring that Virginias children show up for kindergarten ready to learn.

The Board of Education serves as the primary advocate for a quality education for all children and youth in Virginia. In order to meet its goals, the board enacts appropriate regulations, supports local implementation efforts, and regularly measures the performance of the system.

Krupicka is a member of several task forces, work groups and organizations dedicated to Virginias youth. He is chair of the Governors School Readiness Task Force; chair of the Virginia Safe Routes to School Network and a member of the Governors Working Group on Early Childhood Initiatives.

In Alexandria, he is a member of the City-School Coordinating Committee, board advisor to the Alexandria Child and Family Network Center, a board member of the Campagna Center and a member of the Mt. Vernon Elementary School PTA.
