T.C. Williams senior Tynita Butts carried both the high jump and the long jump at last weekends state championship meet in Hampton, helping lead the Titans to an eighth place finish.
Butts, who recently signed to compete for East Carolina University this fall, took the high jump crown first on Friday. Butts managed to clear 5 feet 9 inches, good enough to beat Potomacs Pearl Bickersteth during a jump-off in which neither competitor was able to best the 5 feet 10 inch mark.
On Saturday, Butts followed up her high jump win with an impressive first place in the long jump.
Her first jump of the day, 20 feet 0.5 inches, was good enough to beat a very talented field and also matched the best distance posted in the country this year.
Titan senior LaTona Jackson helped to bolster T.C.s team score, earning sixth place in the girls shot put with a throw of 35 feet 9.25 inches.
