Five Jefferson-Houston Elementary School fifth-grade students were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries last Friday after a car struck their school bus from behind, Alexandria Police said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Beauregard Street and Braddock Road at about 11:30 a.m. as the bus traveled northbound on Beauregard.
Police said a 1990 Honda swerved to avoid another vehicle, identified as a red Honda, which fled the scene of the accident. Police classified the incident as a hit-and-run. The school bus was carrying 33 students at the time of the accident, according to police.
