


Andrew Reese, a fifth grade student at Charles Barrett Elementary School, is yet another Alexandria student about to compete in the Virginia Geographic Bee this Friday at Shenandoah University.
Reese joins Alexandria Country Day School eighth-grader Ilkka Kovanen as one of 100 state semifinalists the semifinalists qualified for the competition after winning their respective school bees and submitting one of the 100 best scores in the state on a written qualifying test.
The state winner of the Virginia Bee which is open to students from fourth grade to eighth grade will receive $100, a copy of the National Geographic Atlas of the World and a trip to the national finals in Washington. hosted by Alex Trebek. The national winner will get a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
