State Senator Patsy Ticer presented Emily Conron with one of the Alexandria Historical Societys High School History Awards as part of the annual awards ceremony Wednesday night at the Lyceum. Conron, a Bishop Ireton senior, currently has a 4.4 GPA, serves as student body president and will be heading to Georgetown University next year.

The other high school honors went to Patrick White (T.C. Williams), Charles Snow (Episcopal) and Sarah Mathieson (St. Stephens and St. Agnes).

Mary V. Thompson, Mt. Vernons research historian for the last 10 years, was the recipient of the 2009 Alexandria History Award for her recent book, In the Hands of a Good Providence: Religion in the Life of George Washington. Special Awards went to Char Bah, Rosalind Bovey and also to Leland and Janet Ness for their efforts in the Alexandria community.
